I remember a time when (the very lovely) Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was the only Indian to walk down the red carpet at Cannes. Seeing her pictures, an Indian, amongst the sea of others was a proud moment. I still remember being moon-eyed over the structured icy blue Michael Cinco number she wore in 2017, absolutely stunning (see below).
While I loved the fact that an Indian graced the red carpet at Cannes, the lack of inclusivity was something that was quite disappointing and I know for a fact that this sentiment was echoed by many. The presence of multiple Indian personalities at this film festival was practically unheard of. Cut to 2022; I open my Instagram to see a bevy of Indian women flocking to the French Riviera all set to stun the masses!
